Philadelphia Flyers1.  Philadelphia Flyers Season Preview

They made huge steps last year and I’m looking for even bigger steps this year.

The Flyers have one of the best forward groups in the league. Daniel Briere, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Joffrey Lupul, Scottie Upshall, Mike Knuble, Scott Hartnell and Steve Downie are all great/good forwards that make up the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines. There’s also Simon Gagne who’s coming back after missing most of last season due to injury.

Philly isn’t quite a solid on defence, but they still have a good group. Kimmo Timonen leads the charge with Braydon Coburn and Randy Jones helping out. Newly acquired Steve Eminger adds some depth and is a top 4 defenceman and Lasse Kukkonen and Ossi Vaananen round out the blue line. Unfortunately they’ve already run into injury problems with both Ryan Parent and Derian Hatcher.

Between the pipes the Flyers are set with Martin Biron who showed he’s a legitimate #1 and Antero Niittymaki as the backup.

As long as they don’t get hit with the injury bug too hard and continue to get solid goaltending I see this team surprising a lot of people and finishing 1st in the division.
