Texas Longhorns

Week: | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Total Pro Sports – Some interesting unfoldings this week in our College Football Power Rankings, TCU beats BYU to move into the Top 20. Texas dominates against Missouri as they stay No. 1 for a second straight week. A spot in the National Championship Game seems to be a three-legged race between unbeaten Texas, Alabama and Penn State.

There were a few teams that looked good again this week, Let us begin with Mack Brown’s Texas Longhorns, they have played Oklahoma and Missouri in back to back weeks and cruised to victory. USC pasted the Cougars this week winning by a score of 69-0 a very embarrassing loss to that program which prides itself on putting out a competitive product. It seems that each week the Top 25 receives a complete new makeover, the parity in college sport is so great that on any given Saturday anyone can win

Green ArrowOur biggest winners this week in our College FOOTBALL Power Rankings, were the TCU Horned Frogs moving up 9 spots after not even being in our college football power rankings top 25 last week. TCU won a huge game against previously ranked #13 BYU. The Pittsburgh Panthers moved up 8 spots to #14 and the Boston College Eagles moved into

our top 25 rankings at #19 for the first time this season.

Red ArrowOur biggest losers this week in our college Football Power Rankings for week 8 were Kansas Jayhawks dropping 7 spots to #21, they were blown out by the Oklahoma Sooners 45-31. The Virgina Tech Hockies, and the Missouri Tigers both lost 5 spots respectivly to #24 and #15. The Tigers fell for the second time in our weekly college power rankings, they are officially out of our top 10.

Lets take a look at this weeks COLLEGE FOOTBALL POWER RANKINGS.

Rank Team Rec PRV Comment
1

Texas Longhorns

7-0 - There is no doubt about this team being the No.1 overall in the country. Last week they win the Red River Rivalry and this week they completely negate a solid Missouri offense. Up Next: Oklahoma State Cowboys
2 Alabama Crimson Tide 7-0 - Almost a stumble for the Tide as they hold off a Rebels team that knows how upset a large home favorite (Florida). Up Next: Tennessee Volunteers
3 Penn State Lions 8-0 - After a slow start the Nittany Lions really turned on the afterburners leaving the Wolverines in their dust. The Lions get the proverbial monkey off their back ending a 9 game losing streak to Michigan. Up Next: Ohio State Buckeyes
4 Oklahoma Sooners 6-1 Green Arrow1 Sam Bradford shock off last weeks loss and played yet another stellar game. There were all kinds of new records set in this game including a 9 year old single game passing record by a Sooner quarterback. Up Next: Kansas State Wildcats
5 Florida Gators 5-1 Red Arrow1 Bye Week. Up Next: Kentucky Wildcats
6

USC

5-1 - They were 48 point favorites on the road this week and they won 69-0. USC was focused this game and outgained the Cougars more than 4:1 in total yards and allowed a measly 28 passing yards the entire game. Up Next: Arizona Wildcats
7

Texas Tech Red Raiders

7-0 - They get it done again winning handley but their toughest part of the schedule is yet to come. Their next 4 games are against Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma St, and Oklahoma, this will determine were the Red Raiders stand amongst the best. Up Next: Kansas Jayhawks
8 Georgia Bulldogs 6-1 - The Bulldogs outlasted the Commodores this week, keyed by a great effort from Knowshon Moreno and a stingy defense, the two things that are guaranteed when you play the Georgia Bulldogs. Up Next: LSU Tigers
9 Oklahoma State 7-0 - What a pleasant surprise the Cowboys have been this season, they continue to stay undefeated with a win against the Baylor Bears. Similar to the Red Raiders, the Cowboys have a tough back end to the schedule. Up Next: Texas Longhorns
10

Ohio State Buckeyes

7-1 Green Arrow1

The Buckeyes are back baby! They simply overpowered the Spartans, with a big running game from Chris Wells, an efficient Terrell Pryor and an opportunistic, hard-nosed defence. Big game next week against division leader Penn State. Up Next: Penn State Nittany Lions

11 Utah Utes 8-0 Green Arrow1 I have been saying it for weeks, this team can run the table and play in a big BCS Bowl Game. Their toughest tests will be home games against TCU and BYU. Up Next: New Mexico Lobos
12 LSU Tigers 5-1 Green Arrow3

The Tigers bounced back from a tough loss last week to slide past the Gamecocks. The Tigers stiffened in the fourth quarter holding South Carolina to negative yardage in the final period. Up Next: Georgia Bulldogs

13 Bosie State Broncos 6-0 Green Arrow5 The Freshman pivot has looked good thusfar, leading the Broncos to a 6-0 start and a victory over a Top 25 team. Their strength of schedule will have a lot to do with the bowl game they play in. Up Next: San Jose St Spartans
14 Pittsburgh 5-1 Green Arrow8 LeSean McCoy has quickly become an interest in the Heisman talk, after another impressive showing this week against Navy. Just to clarify how impressive he has been of late, in his last 3 games McCoy is averaging 149 YPG and Pittsburgh has rolled off 5 straight wins. Up Next: Rutgers Scarlet Knights
15

Missouri Tigers

5-2 Red Arrow5 They won their first five games of the season and then played two explosive offenses and were not able to keep up. Their National Championship hopes are have come to an abrupt end. Up Next: Colorado Buffaloes
16 TCU 7-1 NR They should have maybe cracked the Top 25 last week, however there is no denying their spot this week. They absolutely owned the BYU Cougars this past week, handing them their first loss of the season. Up Next: Wyoming Cowboys
17 BYU 6-1 Red Arrow4 A tough loss to the TCU Horned Frogs this week. Max Hall was under pressure all night by the ferocious TCU defence, and the Cougars’ nation leading 16 game win streak is over. Up Next: UNLV Runnin Rebels
18

South Florida Bulls

6- 1 Green Arrow2 The Bulls got back in the win column beating Syracuse by a large margin. The offense got back on track this week and needs to continue to play well for the remainder of the season. Up Next: Louisville Cardinals
19 Boston College 5-1 NR The Eagles cracked the Top 25 for the first time this year with their big win over Virginia Tech. I think everyone felt that it would take a few years for this program to reach the upper echelon of college football rankings since they lost their star quarterback to the NFL. Next Up: North Carolina Tar Heels
20 Georgia Tech 6-1 NR Probably the most consistent ACC team has been the Yellow Jackets which to me is quite surprising. They are getting it done with strong defence and timely offense. Up Next: Virginia Cavaliers
21

Kansas

5-2 Red Arrow7 Third down conversions, or their lack of was their downfall this week, as they got handled by Oklahoma. Kansas was able to move the football and score points at will, however, their 2-12 on third downs wasn’t good enough to beat a powerhouse like the Sooners. Up Next: Texas Tech Red Raiders
22 Ball State 7-0 Green Arrow1 Bye week. Up Next: Eastern Michigan Eagles
23

Tulsa

8-0 NR I bet if I told you that their were 2 unbeaten teams in Oklahoma you could not guess who the second team is. They play out of the Conference USA so they will not get the same notoriety as the Cowboys or Sooners but this is a good football team led by a solid quarterback. Up Next: UCF Knights
24

Virginia Tech

5-2 Red Arrow5 They have an established running game and their special teams is always near the top in college football, however, they must be able to pass the ball a whole lot better if they want to compete against good programs. Up Next: Florida St Seminoles
25

Cincinnati

5-1 NR The final spot in the Top 25 brings a lot of interest because unlike the top spot there are about 6 or 7 teams that feel they have done enough to earn it. The Bearcats are given the opportunity this week to represent the final spot but don’t be surprised if their not here next week. Up Next: Connecticut Huskies

Honorable Mention: Minnesota, Boston College, Florida State, Western Michigan, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Air Force, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Oregon, Arizona.
