Week: | Pre – 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

Total Pro Sports – I wonder if the Boston Celtics will ever lose the #1 spot in the NBA Power Rankings.  I don’t think so, they will be there for the entire season.

The Raptors started 4-0 and now are 6-7, is it time for a coaching change? Something needs to be done quick before the Raptors slide even more.

NBA Power Rankings Movers And Shakers

Green ArrowOur biggest movers this week in our NBA Power Rankings, were the Dallas Mavericks and the New Jersey Nets moving up 7 spots in the power rankings.

The Dallas Mavericks moved from #21 to #14 and the New Jersey Nets moved from #25 to #18.

Red ArrowOur biggest shakers this week in our NBA Power Rankings for week were the Toronto Raptors losing 9 spots the power rankings, moving from #11 to #20.

The Detroit Pistons were the second biggest shakers losing 8 spots, from #3 to #11 in the power rankings.

Lets take a look at the rest of the league: NBA Power Rankings for Week 4.

Rank Team Record PRV Comment
1 Boston Celtics 13-2 - The Celtics crushed the Raptors on Sunday; they have a 5 game winning streak going. Typical Celtics start to the season since they picked up Garnett and Allen.
2 LA Lakers 11-1 - Handled the lowly Kings at home. Phil Jackson is showing why he’s such a smart coach. Kobe is averaging 34 minutes a game, and all regulars are having there minutes kept low to keep them fresh. It could make the difference come playoff time.
3 Cleveland Cavaliers 10-3 Green Arrow1 Took care of the Hawks this week. Mo Williams is averaging 17 points a game; they have to be happy with his production. You think Danny Ferry is thinking about the summer of 2010 now that the Knicks have cleared cap space. The clock is ticking on him to show Bron they have a serious contender in Cleveland.
4 Orlando Magic 9-4 Green Arrow2 They lost a close one to the Rockets, barely beat the lowly Pacers then took down a team very comparable to them in the Toronto Raptors. The Pistons, Cavs and Celtics dominate the headlines in the east, but look at the Magic, they could surprise in the playoffs.
5 Utah Jazz 9-5 Green Arrow2 The Jazz lost big to the Spurs this week, which hurts, that’s a team they should beat. At the same time they were missing Boozer and Derron Williams. There doing really well with there record considering there star player is out.
6 Houston Rockets 9-5 Green Arrow4 Rockets are looking pretty good, but Mcgrady’s number’s are down and Yao did sit out this week with an injury, those are two major things of concern.
7 Denver Nuggets 9-5 Green Arrow2 They are really benefiting from having Billups on the team. They were 3-1 this week, beating the Spurs but losing to the Lakers. A solid week. Big game against the Hornets on Thursday.
8 Phoenix Suns 9-5 Red Arrow3 Shaq showed Oden he’s got a ways to go, but honestly, how impressive is Shaq looking early on, he seems more motivated then ever to help the Suns win a championship, I think he knows this is the last realistic shot. He’s Averaging 15 and 8 early on in limited minutes.
9 New Orleans Hornets 7-3 Green Arrow4 A bad loss to the Kings this week, but they made up with it by crushing the Thunder in back to back games. They need to step it up; they have enough talent on this team to have the top ranking in these power rankings.
10 Atlanta Hawks 8-5 Red Arrow2 Tough loss to the Cavs this week and a loss to the Pacers doesn’t help either. A lot of people are talking about Lebron, Amare, Dwade and Bosh as free agents in the summer of 2010. We should start talking about Joe Johnson. He’s averaging 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
11 Detroit Pistons 8-5 Red Arrow8 You think they would be ranked higher after a big win this week over the Cavs, but when you get blown out by the Celtics, then get demolished by the lowly Timberwolves at home by 26, you deserve to be brought down. It’s got to be worrying when you lose to the Wolves.
12 Portland Trailblazers 8-6 - Oden got a lesson from Professor Shaq, solid team a lot of weapons, but maybe a bit too young
13 Miami Heat 7-6 Green Arrow2 Dwade and Beasley are looking good, Wade has his averages at 29 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds, showing those shoulder and knee problems are a thing of the past. Same can’t be said for Shawn Marion, remember him hating being in Phoenix and being seen as the 3rd star on that team. Well 12 points and 9 rebounds this year are 3rd star averages.
14 Dallas Mavericks 6-7 Green Arrow7 Dallas has won 4 in a row after starting the season 2-7. They have a date with the Lakers this week. Let’s see if they can surprise them.
15 New York Knicks 7-6 Red Arrow1 I am willing to guarantee this will be the highest the Knicks end up in power rankings. They got rid of their two big scorers and now have a decent team, but no low post presence. Donnie Walsh has done what he said he would, get this team under the cap and ready to roll out the carpet for all those attractive free agents in 2010. Here’s a thought. The Knicks have enough cash two sign two max players. So putting something like Bosh and Lebron together. What if Nash hasn’t won a championship by then, and wants to join those two for a chance in New York with Mike D’Antoni. I am telling you it’s possible.
16 San Antonio Spurs 6-6 Green Arrow2 Manu is looking to come back soon, which will help them big time. Two easy games against the Grizzlies this week, tough game against the Rockets, should be a good Texas battle.
17 Philadelphia 76ers 7-6
Red Arrow1 Just two games this past week, a bad loss to the Wolves and a one point win against the Clippers. Elton Brand is looking more comfortable out there. Iguodala needs to step up his game, he led this team in scoring last year.
18 New Jersey Nets 6-6
Green Arrow7 There on a western road swing this week, taking on the Lakers, Jazz and Kings so look for them to have a tough road trip. They had 2 nice wins to end this current week and Harris and Carter are looking good together. Brook Lopez is looking like a great pick up by Rod Thorn in this past draft.
19 Bucks 7-8 Green Arrow1 They played the Nuggets and Jazz tough and then came back to win their last two games. Charlie V, remember him Raptor fans, is putting up respectable numbers, 11 points and 7 rebounds. They have a deep team.
20 Toronto Raptors 6-7 Red Arrow9 This was a brutal week for the Raptors winning only 1 of 4. But it’s more about the way they lost. On Friday against the Nets, I’d say I watched the worst Regular Season loss in Raptors History, I mean Jose Calderon made a 3 in the dying minutes and shouted the game was over. How do you let Carter ally-hoop with 2.1 seconds left to win the game in OT. And then to get killed by the Celtics at home… Let’s hope they can turn it around.
21 Chicago Bulls 6-8
Red Arrow4 I really liked the Bulls at the start of the year, and it is early, but I think there going to be much more dangerous next year then this year. Ben Gordon is making it very difficult for the Bulls not to do whatever they can to sign him to an extension. Deng is slowly improving his numbers.
22 Golden State Warriors 5-8 Red Arrow3 They finally got rid of Al Harrington who was unhappy with his role, now I am hearing Marcus Williams has asked for a trade. Don Nelson really isn’t making friends on the west coast, a lot like his first go round with the Warriors. Anthony Morrow is looking great, and is a real fantasy Sleeper. Not sure what kind of impact Crawford will have, so many players fit what he does, and Ellis will be back before you know it.
23 Pacers 5-7 - The Pacers are playing a lot better then I thought they would. Granger and Daniels are playing well together. T.J. Ford has looked good so far, and don’t forget Rasho Nesterovic. He’s averaging 11 points , 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Not bad for the big fella.
24 Timberwolves 3-9 Green Arrow4 This is what you get when you beat the Pistons by 26 in an away game, a move out of the bottom 5 of the Ozel Power Rankings. Jefferson has been good so far, as has Ryan Gomes. Good on them for working hard and getting a nice victory on the road in Detroit.
25 Sacramento Kings 5-10 Red Arrow1 With Kevin Martin out, they are going to have a tough time winning games. They have a really tough week coming up with games against the Nets, Jazz, Trailblazers and Mavericks. I see them losing all 4 of them.
26 Memphis Grizlies 4-9 Red Arrow4 Mayo and Gay are averaging over 20 points a game, with Marc Gasol is averaging 12 and 7, so at least we can say the future is bright for this team, which is not something we can say for all these bottom feeder teams.
27 Bobcats 3-9 Red Arrow1 So for the Grizzlies I said at least they have a bright future even though they are bad now. Well The Bobcats are bad now and I don’t see the young talent there to get them out of here for the next few years. Although I love M.J., I hate Larry Brown more, so hopefully my prediction on them, proves right.
28 L.A. Clippers 2-11
Red Arrow1 The Clippers made a big trade, literally, Acquiring Zach Randolph. They now have 3 starting forwards in Kaman, Camby and Randolph. Look for Kaman to get traded, I’m hearing whispers possibly to the Bobcats, possibly Gerald Wallace going the other way.
29 Washington Wizards 1-10
Green Arrow1 So last week I mentioned that it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Wizards to tank it this year in order to acquire a high draft pick. It looks like I am not the only one thinking this. In the world of Gilbert Arenas, thanks for making me look smart Gilbert.
30 Oklahoma Thunder 1-13
Red Arrow1 they’ve lost 11 in a row, fired coach P.J. Carlisimo, and look like they will be at the bottom of this list for weeks to come… Well hey, at least P.J. didn’t get choked in this job.

Be sure to check back next week with our NBA Power Rankings for week 5.
