NHL Fantasy 3 Stars: Week 23

by: AnthonyP On  Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Total Pro Sports – This week’s 3 Stars sees two regulars return and two centers who have been benefiting from the trade deadline. One because of who his team traded for and the other because of the team he was traded to.

This week’s honorable mention goes to Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings. Last week Pavel posted 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points with 3 of those points coming on the power play. He also registered 13 shots on goal, 2 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of plus-3. Datsyuk is the best two-way player in the game today and is an obvious must have on any fantasy roster.

Lets take a look at the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars for Week 23.

3rd Star – Evgeni Nabokov (G), San Jose Sharks

Evgeni Nabokov has had a terrific season so far already collecting 34 wins with 6 shutouts and a 2.39 GAA. Last week Evgeni had 2 wins while posting a 0.48 GAA, .983 SAV% and one shutout. Despite missing some games due to injury, Nabokov has been a top 5 fantasy goaltender this year and should be for future years as well as long as the Sharks keep icing a competitive team and remain contenders.

2nd Star – Sidney Crosby (C), Pittsburgh Penguins

It appears Sid the Kid has been able to find chemistry with some of the newest Penguins in Bill Guerin and Chris Kunitz and Sidney Crosby fantasy owners have been reaping the benefits. Last week Sidney scored 2 goals and added 6 assists for 8 points, with 3 of those points coming on the power play. He also registered 12 shots on goal and a plus/minus rating of plus-3. Overall Crosby hasn’t challenged Alexander Ovechkin for the #1 fantasy player spot like originally thought, but with his new found chemistry with the previously mentioned new teammates Sid should be a force down the stretch into the playoffs.

1st Star – Olli Jokinen (C), Calgary Flames

Anyone who was wondering if Olli Jokinen would fit in with the Flames certainly isn’t asking themselves that anymore. Last week Olli netted 6 goals and had 2 assists for 8 points with 4 of those points coming while on the power play. He also registered 13 shots on goal and a plus/minus rating of even. After his first 6 games with the Flames Jokinen already has 8 goals and 2 assists for 10 points and has developed some nice chemistry with Jarome Iginla.

Remember to check back in next week to see who the NHL Fantasy 3 Stars will be for Week 24.
