The Stat Line Of The Night – 4/01/09 – Mike Green
Total Pro Sports – The Washington Capitals won their 47th game of the season beating the New York Islanders yesterday 5-3 in Washington. If I were the coach of the Islanders I would recommended losing ever game so they can finish last overall and have the best chance to get phenom John Tavares.
Defenseman Mike Green lead the Washington Capitals scoring 2 goals and added 1 assist for 3 points. Green is having a remarkable year on the blue line tallying 30 goals and 40 assists for 70 points.
Mike Green is “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Wednesday April 1st, 2009.
Mike Green’s buddy back home in Calgary needed a little boost for his fantasy hockey team — a roster that just happens to feature a certain high-scoring Washington Capitals defenseman.
So when he chatted via cyberspace Wednesday with Kyle Lieske, a teammate when they were kids, Green jokingly promised that two goals were on the way. And then he delivered.
“I said I was going to do it, but I had no idea it was going to happen,” said Green, the first defenseman to reach 30 since Washington’s Kevin Hatcher in 1993-94. “It’s just funny that I did it, and now I can tell him, ‘I told you so.”‘
If Mike Green can keep on this pace he may have the chance to shatter all records for defenseman.
