Jake Delhomme Signs Huge Extension

by: DanD On  Friday, April 24, 2009

jake-delhommeTotal Pro Sports-  Various media outlets are reporting that Panthers Qb Jake Delhomme has signed a contract extension that will keep him in Carolina though 2014.  The deal is reportedly worth $42.5 million, which will be paid out over 5 years, with $20 million of that guaranteed.

My question is why?  What did he do to deserve such confidence from the team?  He must have one of the best agents in the league or some incriminating photos of John Fox.

In my eyes he will always be a mediocre quarterback and now he is vastly overpaid.  Last year he threw for 3,288 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.  He also had a stellar 59.4 completion percentage and because of that great season the Panthers have rewarded him with a fat contract.  I’m sorry, I just don’t get it.

Did they forget about his last game of the season, you know the playoff game where he threw 5 picks against the Arizona Cardinals.  I know that it was just one game, but I wouldn’t have given him an extension until after this upcoming season.
