Red Sox Jacoby Ellsbury Steals HomeTotal Pro Sports – In last night 4-1 win over the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox’s Jacoby Ellsbury successfully stole home on pitcher Andy Pettitte without being tagged out.

Stealing home is not a common everyday thing in a baseball game and is a very rare feat accomplished by the Boston Red Sox center fielder.  This was Ellsbury’s first time since College that he stole home.

“The biggest thing is getting the courage to go, I guess. In that situation, bases loaded, you’ve got to make it,” Ellsbury said after a 4-1 win Sunday night gave the Red Sox their 10th straight win and a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees. “I was pretty confident that I could get in there.”

Pitcher Andy Pettitte had no idea that Ellsbury was going to steal as he had his back to him because he is a left handed pitcher.  Yanks manager Joe Girardi thought that his pitcher should have paid more attention to Jacoby.

“It shouldn’t happen, but it did,” said Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who tried to alert Pettitte as the crowd roared. “We were screaming, but nobody can hear you here.”

Jacoby Ellsbury success of stealing home was a turning point in the game.  His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was given a standing ovation by the Boston Red Sox fans.  I just wonder what would have been the reaction of the crowd if he did not successfully steal home????
