Carl Crawford is a Master Base Thief
Total Pro Sports – In a rematch of last years AL Championship Series, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays showed similar form to that which brought the franchise to their first World Series in defeating the Boston Red Sox 5-3. Carl Crawford went 4-4, but that wasn’t even his most impressive stat. Getting on base as often as he did, Crawford was able to tie the modern day major league record with six stolen bases. Crawford now joins Eddie Collins, Otis Nixon and Eric Young, who also had six steals in a game.
When asked about his record-setting day after the game, Crawford stated he’s “been trying to put pressure on (opposing teams),” and he did just that, leaving Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek and the rest of his team in the dust. The sight of Crawford sliding into second and third may be a recurring theme in Varitek’s nightmares for the next couple weeks.
