Total Pro Sports – With their pitching rotation taking some major hits due to the injury bug, the Toronto Blue Jays continue to find young prospects that apear ready to step up in the big leagues. Yeasterday against the Oakland Athletics, it was Brett Cecil’s turn to show what he had in his second career Major League start.
In this west coast day game, the Jays ended their road trip with a 5-0 won thanks to eight solid shutout inning from the 22-year-old lefty, in which he allowed only 5 hits while striking out six A’s batters. The win earned the Jays another series victory ultimately making Cecil “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Sunday May 10th, 2009.
Cecil’s record is now 1-0 with an ERA of 0.64. This means the Jays coaching staff and players can breath a sigh of relief as many questioned the depth of their rotation at the beginning of the year. With the young kids stepping up and Roy Halladay continuing his strong start, the question marks continue to turn disappear as the W’s pile up.
