Jeff Bennett Shows Stupidity, Guts, All In One Game

Marlins Braves BaseballTotal Pro Sports – Baseball pitchers are no strangers to blowups.  Just ask Carlos Zambrano, or K-Rod.  Now you can add Jeff Bennett to that list, but the only difference is that rather than taking a bat to the Gatorade cooler, or targeting the face of the opposition, Bennett preferred to take his aggression out on a door with his fist.  Not a good idea.  The door always wins.

Bennett was upset after allowing a bases loaded single to Alex Rodriguez in the sixth inning on Wednesday, which put the Yanks up 3-1, but here is where the story takes an unusual twist.

After taking his anger out on a door, he realized he had broken a bone in his non-throwing hand.  Rather than informing team trainers, he simply pushed the bone back in, which was all the way through and poking out of the top, and continued pitching.  He would give up a homer to Nick Swisher in the seventh, but made it through the entire inning before letting trainers know of his injury.

Bennett has now been placed on the 15-day DL and will likely need 4-6 weeks to recover, that is assuming he doesn’t have anymore run-ins with unfriendly doors.
