The Stat Line Of The Night – 06/25/09 – Lance Berkman
Total Pro Sports – Brian Bannister was solid last night for the most part, but he will be glad he does not have to worry about facing Lance Berkman again for a while now. In a tight 5-4 game, the Houston Astros first baseman was the difference, giving his team just enough to get by the Kansas City Royals.
Lance had a strong day at the plate, tallying half his teams hits, and most of their RBIs. His final stats had him going 3 for 4 with, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs, and 9 total bases. Both of his blasts came with one runner on and no outs. The first time was in the second inning, but perhaps even more important was his homer in the sixth with his Astros down 4-3. That shot would put his team ahead for good and solidify his case for “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday June 25th, 2009.
In a tight NL Central race, the Astros remain 5.0 games back of the division leading St. Louis Cardinals and they will need to continue winning to keep their playoff hopes alive. Any bad losing streak can take a team right out of it, but a winning streak is likely enogh to catipule any team into first. Ending their series against the Royals with a victory, Berkman and the Astros will look to continue putting together crucial wins tonight against the Detroit Tigers.
