The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/05/09 – Ricky Nolasco
The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/06/09 – Jarrod Washburn
Total Pro Sports – It was a tough decision on this one. Two pitchers threw complete game shutouts. Both allowing minimal hits. One with more strikeouts, but the other with less hits and no walks allowed. So who did we take? Seattle’s Jarrod Washburn was our man for last night, but barely over Oakland pitcher Brett Anderson.
Washburn was almost unhittable last night, going the distance against the Baltimore Orioles and allowing only one hit and no walks, while striking out three in the process. He got the run support needed and lead his team to the 5-0 victory, earning himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday, July 6th, 2009.
After a solid 3-1 start in April, Washburn has seen his record drop to 5-6, even though his ERA has improved over that time. He has had a shakey start, or two, but a big factor seems to be the lack of run support he has received and some poor efforts by the bullpen backing him up. Nonetheless, the Mariners still find themselves in the hunt for first in the AL West, only 3.5 games back of Los Angeles. Performances like last night’s can only help their cause.
