The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/19/09 – Roy Halladay

roy-halladayTotal Pro Sports – There were several strong performances on the mound Sunday but we can only choose one.  Call it biased, but we are going with Blue Jays’ ace, and the subject of several trade talks, Roy Halladay.  The doc was sharp all afternoon against the Boston Red Sox, leading his Jays to a 3-1 victory as they took the final two games of their three-game set.

With several scouts from other teams watching, Roy showed just why he is considered to be one of baseball’s best pitchers, and the most coveted prize of the MLB trade deadline.  Facing a tough Red Sox lineup, Halladay allowed only one run on six hits, and recorded seven strikeouts through a complete nine innings.  Such an effort was more than enough to earn him  “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Sunday, July 19th, 2009.

The crowd of over 36,000 gave Roy a standing ovation after he struck out Jacoby Ellsbury for the final out of the day.  Halladay tipped his hat to the Toronto fans, knowing that it may be the last time they see him wearing a Jays uniform.  With the July 31st approaching quickly, Halladay is slated to pitch on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but whether he still be a Jay by then remains to be seen.
