The Stat Line Of The Night – 07/21/09 – Cliff Lee
Total Pro Sports – With the Indians traveling into Toronto, they bound to hear about all the buzz surrounding the possible trade involving the AL’s leading candidate for this year’s Cy Young, Roy Halliday. Last night they sent a Cy Young winner of their own to the mound, last year’s winner Cliff Lee, and he showed the Jays’ fans some of that 2008 form.
Facing off against rookie Brett Cecil, the two put on a pitching duel last night at the Rogers Centre, but in the end Lee came out on top with the victory. Pitching a complete game, he posted 4 strikeouts while allowing seven hits and only one run, earning the Indians the 2-1 victory, and himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday, July 20th, 2009.
With a 6-9 record, Lee is far from putting up numbers similar to those which won him honors as top pitcher in the AL last year, but his 3.17 ERA does show that the run support has not been there either. With the Indians now sporting a 37-57 record, their season is all but done at this point, but you can bet Lee will want to make a statement before attempting to get back to the top in 2010.
