Top Gear: Ken Block Takes James May on a Drift

Ken Block on Top Gear

Total Pro Sports - His name is Ken Block and had he been driving the Subaru WRX seen in this crash, things may have turned out different.  Unfortunately, he wasn't, but in case you were wondering what exactly we are talking about, the video below should help explain.

Block made an appearance on Top Gear, as he stepped into the driver's seat of 380-horsepower Subaru WRX STI and put on a show with James May riding shotgun.  Flying down the airport runway then taking on the miles of surrounding dirt,  block showed off his speed and control both on and off the road.  And if that wasn't enough, he even brought a friend along.

Midway through this automotive adventure, the man many consider to be the best motocross racer of all time, Ricky Carmichael, joined in on the action.  While Block was speeding by him on the ground, Carmichael was soaring through the air as he took on a couple of jumps with his bike.  That seemed to have enticed Block, who eventually took his turn on the final ramp.  If you look close enough, you may actually be able to spot the exact moment when James May shits his pants.

In the end, no one was hurt.  What else would you expect from the man who has achieved 18 podiums and 7 overall rally victories.  The fact that there were no trees around to decapitate their heads, or mountains to fall off of likely helped their cause as well.

Ken is the man! I hope he joins Travis Pastrana for Nitro Circus next season – he’s a way cool guy that pulls some gnarly stunts and I think would fit right in.

Anyone else catch his ESPN featurette? It really gave some great insight into one of the most interesting characters on the scene, definitely worth checking out. Also I was stoked that they featured “Sons of Cain” by Ted Leo + Pharmacists – I’ve loved that band since their first album and thought the song makes the perfect Ken Block soundtrack.
