The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/01/09 – Cole Hamels
Total Pro Sports – Last night’s game between the San Francisco Giants and the Philadelphia Phillies may have sent a giant warning signal out to the entire Majors, as Cole Hamels looks like he might be shaping into form just in time for the post-season. With Cliff Lee and J.A. Happ already atop the Phillies rotation and looking great, the addition of a rejuvenated Hamels may mean another World Series title in Philadelphia is not far away.
Last night Hamels looked to be back to his old form as Giants’ batters had no answer for him all night. The lefty pitched the entire game, allowing only two hits while striking out nine as the Phillies won this pitchers’ duel, 1-0. It was an impressive performance by last year’s World Series MVP, and enough to earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, September 1st, 2009.
Philadelphia now finds themselves 7.5 games up in the NL East and playing some great ball in time for October. It will be tough to repeat this season with the Yankees, Angels, Dodgers and Cardinals all looking to be in top form as well, but with their deep rotation and strong bats, it could very well be the Phillies year again.
