The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/07/09 – Chris Carpenter
Total Pro Sports – It has been over two months since Chris Carpenter last recorded a loss. July and August were near perfect months (9-0 in 11 starts) for the St. Louis Cardinals’ ace and September has been much of the same. After getting a victory in his first start of the month, Carpenter looked to continue his winning ways against the Milwaukee Brewers on labour day, and he did just that.
It was the type of performance that we have become accustomed to seeing from Carpenter as he went the distance, allowing only one hit over nine innings while striking out an impressive ten batters. The Cards’ bats would provide three runs and Chris would up his record on the season to 16-3, and in the process earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Monday, September 7th, 2009.
Carpenter now finds himself as a leading candidate in NL Cy Young discussions. He currently holds a league leading ERA of 2.16 and his 16 wins is second behind teammate, Adam Wainwright. This potent one-two punch are on top of their game right now, and with the Cardinals seemingly assured a playoff spot, that could spell trouble for whoever they may face when October rolls around.
