The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/10/09 – Santonio Holmes
Total Pro Sports – Football season is officially back as the 2008 Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off their 2009 campaign at home against the Tennessee Titans. The NFL’s Super Bowl is a tough title to successfully defend, but the Steelers got off to a great start and much of that had to do with the play of last season’s hero, Santonio Holmes.
With the game scoreless late in the second quarter, the man who scored the final points of last season got open in the endzone and caught a 34 yard touchdown pass to put the first points on the board in the 2009 season. It was one of Holmes’ nine receptions as the Steelers’ wideout recorded 131 yards through the air and a touchdown to lead his club to the 13-10 overtime victory, and earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, September 10th, 2009.
Pittsburgh was only able to gain 36 yards on the ground against a stout Titans run defense, but Ben Roethlisberger was connecting with all his receivers throughout the night in a 33 for 43, 363 yard effort. Santonio was his favorite target all night as he made the most of his opportunities, averaging over 14 yards per catch. should he continue to be this reliable, you can expect Big Ben to look his way quite often in ’09.
