Dave Mercer Throws Out The First Ever Opening Cast At Jays Game

Dave Mercer Throws Out The First Ever Opening Cast At Jays GameTotal Pro Sports - For those who don't recognize the name Dave Mercer, you can usually find him hosting Facts of Fishing.  He is also the man who should now be credited as the first to perform the opening cast of a Major League Baseball game.  That's right.  I said "cast."

Being a professional fisherman, you would expect his cast to be better than his throw and that seemed to be the case.  Mercer was introduced in front of an empty Rogers Center prior to the Jays' game last night against the Baltimore Orioles.  With his fishing rod in hand and a baseball for bait, Mercer was able to sling one in there for a strike.

Not only was it an impressive display that Mercer felt may get him a call from Cito Gaston very soon, but you have to believe the likes of Barack Obama, Baba Booey and Mr. T would all be embarrassed after seeing a man show more accuracy and strength with his fishing rod cast than they were able to display with their arms.

Ah – he should of went from the stretch and made it a little more authentic. But – better then Chris Rock and Bob-a-Boey

    5. John says:

That was weak! He could have done it from 60 feet, why didn’t he try? That wasn’t even Little League distance. Very disappointing.
