The Stat Line Of The Night – 09/24/09 – Clay Buchholz
Total Pro Sports – The Boston Red Sox have all but sealed their spot in the playoffs with a little over a week to go in the season. Leading the wild card race by eight games over the Texas Rangers, each win brings them one step closer to booking their ticket for October baseball, and the performance of Clay Buchholz against the Kansas City Royals brought them yet another important victory last night.
The Royals’ bats are among the league’s worst and Buchholz had no problem taking advantage of that as he pitched 6 and 2/3 innings of solid baseball, allowing only five hits and no runs over that stretch while recording eight strikeouts. By the time his night was finished, he had helped his team gain a 5-0 lead, and they would role from there to a 10-3 win. For Buchholz, it was a short night, but that was all he needed to earn himself “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Thursday, September 24th, 2009.
Buchholz has been impressive of late, recording wins in each of his past six decisions. His last loss came on August 13th, and he will hope it stays that way. With playoff time rolling around, the games will become even more important and the Sox will need similar outings from Buchholz and the rest of their rotation if they expect to get by the Yankees and Angels.
