TPS NFL Weekly Locks: Week 3
Total Pro Sports – Week two was another 2-2 week with the underdog Ravens winning in San Diego the shootout between the Giants and Cowboys on Monday night easily going over the total. Unfortunately the Dolphins could not hold on in the dying moments of a game they seemed to be in control of and the Patriots, along with Tome Brady, finally fell back down to earth and were beat by the Jets. It was another tough week but the .500 finish keeps us at that mark with a 4-4 on the year. We are confident that this is the week where we rise above.
Here is how we see things shaping up in four games for Week three of the NFL season.
Game: Carolina Panthers @ Dallas Cowboys
Pick: Carolina Panthers +8 1/2
Reason: Another prime time game for Jerry Jones and his new stadium. This time it comes against the Panthers in a battle between two teams with quarterbacks who seem to have a knack for turning over the ball. While much of the focus going in will be on Tony Romo and Jake Delhomme, this game will likely come down to the ground game. Both teams field defenses that have been weak against the run so expect both coaches to target that. If that is the case, we will give a slight edge to the Panthers and DeAngelo Williams over a banged up Marion Barber. While Williams may not be able to win this game on his own for Carolina, we do believe he and the Panthers defense can do enough to cover the rather large spread.
Game: Tennessee Titans @ New York Jets
Pick: Tennessee Titans + 2 1/2
Reason: Judging by what I have seen thus far, it appears most people are leaning heavily towards the Jets in this game. They are the ones with a 2-0 record going up against a winless Titans team, but I expect that to change after this week. The Tennessee defense looked susceptible to the pass last week, but they remain stingy against the run. Than means the ball will likely be put in the hands of rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and that is exactly what the Titans would prefer. Look for them to give him a not-so-warm welcome into the NFL, and we think the Jets defense will lighten up somewhat and give Chris Johnson enogh breathing room to put some points on the board for his team. Take the Titans to get their first win of the season here.
Game: New Orleans Saints @ Buffalo Bills
Pick: Over 51 1/2
Reason: When you consider the fact that New Orleans has put up an average of 46.5 points per game, this total seems rather low. Throw in there a hot Trent Edwards at quarterback for the Bills, and Terrell Owens and Lee Evans on the receiving end of his tosses and you have yourself a potential shootout at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Not only do both teams have potentially potent passing games, but the Saints and Bills also rank 29th and 31st against the pass in the league. Baring a hurricane in Buffalo, expect the points to be rolling in here.
Game: Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos
Pick: Denver Broncos +1 1/2
Reason: The Denver Broncos come into the third week with a surprising 2-0 record, but after looking at their first two opponents (Cincinnati and Cleveland), that record tends to lose some of its shock value. This week they will make their way into the Black Hole and their rushing defense will be put to the test against the likes of Darren McFadden and Michael Bush. It should be a close game between division rivals, but we expect the Raiders to clamp down on what is a weak Denver offense, and muster up enough through their ground game to get the victory and cover the spread in front of Raider Nation.
