Going to a Leafs game is like going to a Billy Graham rally. Every few minutes, everyone stands up and yells, JESUS CHRIST! ! ! !

Why will Hamilton never get a NHL team? ...Because if they got one, Toronto would want one too.

Paul5 -

Actually all of those sports save for soccer were either invented by a Canadian or first played in Canada.

Hockey - was first played by British soldiers in Kingston and Halifax in the 1850s. The first rules were drafted at McGill University (Montreal) in the 1870s.

Lacrosse - the Huron and Iroquois played it as early as the 12th century. In 1637, the Jesuit missionary Jean de Brebeuf was the first European to write about the game, and named it lacrosse.

Football - the first recorded game of gridiron football was played at Toronto's University College in 1861. In 1874, McGill University challenged Harvard to a game, which is how it spread to the US. The difference in field size between US and Canadian rules is a result of Harvard having a smaller field than the one they played on in Montreal.

Basketball - A Canadian named James Naismith invented basketball while working as a teacher at Springfield College. The first game was played in 1891.

Baseball wasn't invented in Canada or the US. America's passtime was invented by the Brits, with some changes to a children's game called Rounders - a game which was brought to North America by British immigrants. However, the game was played in Canada before it came to the US. The first recorded baseball game in North America occurred in 1838 in Beachville, Ontario. The great Abner Doubleday was purported to be the inventor of baseball, which supposedly occurred in 1839 in Cooperstown, NY, a year after it had already been played in Canada. However, Doubleday never claimed to have invented it. The whole thing was made up by Al Spalding. It wasn't until 7 years after the Beachville game that the New York Knickerbockers played the first recorded game on US soil.

The US is responsible for volleyball, if that's any consolation.

At least most of the sports that they are bad at were created by Americans, so they are not native sports to Canada

even the rock have been poor in the last couple of seasons. if you are calling Toronto the modern day loserville (as in their teams are all losers now, which they are) the Rock would also be considered in that category. Missing the playoffs and a bad start to this season gets you there. Sad but true.
