The Stat Line of the Night – 11/09/09 – Steve Nash
The Phoenix Suns are back to their run-and-gun ways this season, and Steve Nash is the guy you want to give the keys to in that kind of offense. After floundering the last couple years trying to slow the ball down, the Suns are fun to watch again.
Steve Nash posted an unbelievable line of 21 points and 20 assists on the night, which earned him “The Stat Line of the Night” and helped lead his Suns to a 119-115 victory. They scored outscored the 76ers 65-49 in the 2nd half to really put the game out of reach. After being down by 12 at the half, Nash scored 9 points in a 30 point 3rd quarter to bring the Suns back into the game. Then, with the score tied at 106-106, the Suns went on a 7-2 run-with Nash assisting Jason Richardson‘s 3-pointer and layup-to seal the victory. The win makes the Suns 7-1 and they have scored over 100 points in all 8 contests.
Nash’s effort was not alone, his teammates contributed to the win as well. Jason Richardson had 29 points on 6-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Amare Stoudemire had 17 and Grant Hill posted 11. Jared Dudley also chipped in 18 points off the bench.
Nash was actually a free agent at the end of last season and there was speculation he might leave Phoenix after a couple frustrating years in which the Suns hired Terry Porter as coach to bring a more defensive-minded philosophy to the team. Nash appears to have made the right choice by staying with the club.
His 20 assists last night were just 2 off his career-high, a 22 assist night in New York in 2006.
