The Stat Line of the Night – 11/17/09 – Kobe Bryant
The Los Angeles Lakers went into last night’s game against the Detroit Pistons having lost two in a row. Something that has not been common for the defending NBA champions. Something even more uncommon for them is losing three games in a row. In order to avoid having that happen they would need a big effort from Kobe Bryant, and that is exactly what they got.
In their previous two losses, Bryant had been unusually quiet, scoring 19 points on Friday against the Nuggets and 18 on Sunday against the Rockets. Last night the Kobe we have grown accustomed to seeing was rejuvenated with an impressive 40 point effort as he led the Lakers to a 106-93 victory. Bryant also added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. He was only one point away from matching his season-high 41 points, which he has accomplished three times thus far, but it was still enough to get the win and earn him “The Stat Line Of The Night” for Tuesday, November 17, 2009.
With the two consecutive losses, the Lakers saw themselves slide down the Western Conference standings from first place to fourth, where they not sit behind the Suns, Nuggets and Mavericks. It is still early in the season and you can expect them to climb right back up to where they previously were, but the key to their success always has been, and continues to be the play of Kobe Bryant.
