The Stat Line of the Night -12/1/09 – Greg Oden
I wouldn’t say that people were calling Greg Oden a bust. Not yet at least. But the general consensus about him entering this season was that he wasn’t living up to the hype. Well that may no longer be the case. Although the man-child still cannot seem to stay out of foul trouble, he is sure looking more like the next Bill Russell than ever before (note: No one will ever be the next Bill Russell, he was the man).
Last night against a pretty good Miami team, Oden lit it up. Although he wasn’t exactly scoring too much, 13 points on 4/13 shooting, he did tally 20 rebounds and 4 blocks. While those are good numbers, the eye-popping statistic was that of those 20 rebounds, 11 of them were on the offensive glass. 11 offensive rebounds! That is very impressive and actually ties a franchise record.
Although the Trailblazers ended up losing 107-100 to the Heat, the emergence of Greg Oden could have a huge impact on the Western Conference playoff race. If he can be the banger inside that they desperately need, while at the same time defending the paint, they are going to be a force to be reckoned with. That is why Greg Oden is being awarded the Stat Line of the Night.
