Hot Fighter Sarah Ponce Could Be New Face of Female MMA
Up until now, there has really only been one female MMA star that anyone outside of the community would recognize. That was Gina Carano. The key to her success was as much a result of her not being hideously ugly as it was her victories in the ring. Sarah Ponce could be taking it to the next level.
According to inside sources, Ponce may be competing in Strikeforce’s 135-pound women’s tournament next year. She has never competed in MMA, but she has a 12-1 record as a kickboxer with fights in the World Combat League and the Wushu Tournament Beijing 2008. This kickboxer/model has the looks to make it big in MMA, but she is still very young and inexperienced when it comes to fighting. What made Carano a star was not only that there were no other women that men were even remotely attracted to, but that she wasn’t a total loser in the ring. Success in the ring is as important as looks, just ask LaTasha Marzolla, who has yet to gain popularity after having fought only 2 fights.
For comparison, look at Anna Kournikova. That woman was gorgeous, but she was never actually good at tennis. Her star shined bright but it shined fast and disappeared. To have a lasting impact as the “hot athlete” a woman needs to have actual sustained success at the professional level. We can only hope that Ponce is able to do it, since she is significantly hotter than anyone in female MMA right now, including Carano.
