The Stat Line of the Night – 12/16/09 – Carmelo Anthony
Bats just can’t win for losing these days. It seems like anytime they wander onto a sports field and interrupt play, the players and officials kill them and remove them so play can continue. Wait, what? You don’t see what the big deal is? Well neither do I, but PETA had a hissy fit when Manu Ginobili did it, and they will probably go bananas this time as well.
During a game between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, a bat flies onto the ice and play stops. 1 of the Gamblers starts swatting at the bat with a stick trying to catch it, but he is unsuccessful. That’s when a second Gambler brings the double-team and the two players knock the thing on the ice with their sticks and then, still using a stick, the bat is passed over to the side where an official with a shovel comes to retrieve it.
I’m not sure exactly what PETA would have us do in these situations, I think it is just their M.O. to wildly overreact to little things. The two Gamblers who were involved in the homicide of the bat were Brian O’Rourke and Christopher Crane, in case PETA puts out a fake arrest warrant.
