Justin DiBenedetto Holds His Own Against Cody McCormick
Justin DiBenedetto is not known for his fighting skills on the ice, he’s more of a scoring threat than a bruiser. You wouldn’t have been able to tell the other night though. In a hard-fought game that was bound to erupt into a fight all night, Dibenedetto took some shots from Cody McCormick, but was able to hold his own until the fight was broken up.
Justin DiBenedetto was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 6th round of the 2008 draft. He has always been known as a scorer and lines up at Center for the minor league Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders top AHL affiliate. Last season he was the OHL’s player of the year and he is continuing his great play this season. He is having a good year with 10 points on 5 goals and 5 assists so far. He is only 21 years old and shows a lot of promise for making the leap to the NHL.
On Friday night, though, it was more about standing up for himself than scoring any goals. McCormick came at him and he was able to get in a few good shots before the refs trip up his skates as they try to break it up. It looked like he even had the upper hand there for a minute if the zebras had just let it go for a second.
Known affectionately around these parts as “Dibo”, Justin is a friend of TPS and we are all very proud of how well he’s done. Keep playing hard and making us proud!
