Subaru WRX Pulls Semi-truck Out of Snow with Ease (Video)

36

Subaru WRX Pulls Semi-truck Out of Snow with EaseSubaru's are good cars in a lot of ways.  They can be raced at high speeds and have had some success.  On a personal use level, they are affordable and quality automobiles.  And this crazy guy can probably imitate the sounds they make.  None of that really fully allows us to appreciate what they can do.  This clip will help in that department.

This video takes place somewhere in Europe.  The Subaru Legacy is hooked to the stalled semi, which by the way is monstrously large in terms of how difficult it would be to tow.  Not only that, but it is completely stuck in the snow.  Now the first thing I would think of is to get a tow truck, maybe even a pick-up truck with some 4x4 action.  Its a good thing I wasn't there to waste everyone's time.  The driver of this Subaru WRX STI took care of the problem quickly.  Not only does this little car have power, but it had great traction as well to be able to drag all that weight and get moving when it was sitting on the slippery snow as well.

A Subaru isn't exactly the first car I would think of buying or driving when it came to racing or especially towing.  Hard to argue with the evidence though, and this crazy tow job proves the high quality of the vehicle.  On a side note, it's also nice to see people helping each other out instead of flipping each other off.

is that real? come on! there wasn’t even a hill or a ditch there!

    • GTx says:

It’s more likely real than not, because although semis are heavy trucks they do not do good at all in snow nor do most diesels especially trucks personal or semis that have dually wheels because they tend to float over snow and water causing hydroplaning and loss of traction, so in this case that semi wouldn’t need a ditch to be stuck, once it stopped it couldn’t start moving again because it no longer has any momentum that kept it going, and on top of that Subaru WRX’s are strong and beautifully built masterpieces, the WRX is to a car what the Mona Lisa is to The Scream, Subaru has truly built a work of art when it comes to a Vehicle in any aspect!

      • the truth says:

“the WRX is to a car what the Mona Lisa is to The Scream, Subaru has truly built a work of art when it comes to a Vehicle in any aspect!”

        That makes no sense.

    • Eremite says:

Most likely a thin coat of black ice.

    • OLD BLUE ROO says:

Looks like military organizations are gonna have to replace tanks with SooBrews. This clip proves very little, except that someone knew how to hook up a tow rope.

  2. could of says:

Seen it done. Semi with single axle spun on ice. Cars behind, so can’t backup. All it took was small amount of pull to get enough traction related to slipping.

  3. bob says:

    Big woopty do.

  4. whatever says:

Whatever. That was a flat straight piece of road. Truck probably just got stuck with snow packed in front of it’s tires. The Subaru gave it a little extra “bite” but if their was a hill he would have gone no where. Not impressed.

  5. Joe Kool says:

You have to realize that it wasn’t simply pulling the truck: the truck driver was also giving it gas. If the difference in friction between having the wheels of the truck spin out vs catch and move forward, 2 or 3 guys might even have been able to help push the truck out (likely not). The point here is that the subaru helped add more friction to pull the truck out. Sure, 4WD helps in this scenario, but I wouldn’t say that this proves the “quality” of the car. Note that Subaru’s are awesome cars, but this poorly controlled experiment doesn’t actually prove that. The point I’m trying to make is not to draw erroneous conclusions from videos like this.

  6. The Clap says:

I’m sure they went through all that trouble for the fun of it.

    /s

  7. Rico says:

That is not a Subaru legacy, it is a WRX [Impresa] [Sti]

  8. joey says:

Subaru’s are awesome ! It looked like that little fella had all the horsepower it needed to pull that truck out.. amazing !!!

  9. me says:

    i <3 my subaru.

  10. Shaun says:

Not sure it throws anything fun into the mix, but that X-shape road sign that goes past in the last 1/4 of the video, is a rail crossing. They probably weren’t trying this for kicks

  11. Juan lopez says:

To the above poster, he could have 10,000 HP and still could have not moved the semi had he not had the proper amount of torque. I believe it was Top gear that explained the difference like this

“Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.”

  12. tom says:

    This is in the Netherlands.

  13. kd35a says:

The film is from the Netherlands. They are not used to snow there, so I think none of the vehicles have winter tires.

  14. Chris says:

    That’s in the netherlands

  15. John says:

So, what’s the big deal here? Any car can pull an 18 wheeler. The truck wasn’t stuck in the snow. There was no snow blocking it’s wheels. It’s an obvious Subaru staged and created viral-video.

  16. michel says:

this is in the Netherlands. We had some pretty bad snow (by dutch standards anyway) recently..

  17. Joop says:

That is in The Netherlands, close to the sea side. (Hague/Rijswijk area)

  18. mike says:

you mention it is a Legacy. It is actually an Impreza WRX. Possibly an STi.

    Pretty cool nonetheless.

  19. cool joe is a nerd says:

Shut the fuck up cool joe you nerd.

    SUBARU FTW!

  20. timesquad says:

    just shows hatchbacks are awesome!!!

also the people in the video are speaking dutch so I’d suspect they’re in Holland

  21. asdf says:

The reason, that those people were helping each other, was because it’s not America.

  22. god says:

i really cant believe this, i mean come on a little subaru pulling a semi, not gonna happen, i dont think the semi was actually stuck, and i have a feeling that this was staged (possible by subaru), anyone who know about 4wd and awd cars knows that awd is not better than 4wd in low traction situations for quite a few reasons.

  23. eric says:

STIs are based on Imprezas not Legacys

  24. Don says:

Wasn’t stuck in snow. Like people said already…just a bit of black ice and the Wrx just gave the extra bit of pull with its itsy bitsy tiny weeny toe rope which wouldn’t have held squat.

  25. paul says:

that is a ridiculous video, the owner of the car probably felt like a pimp!

  26. Joeri says:

This video is made in the netherlands, on 16th of december when a cold front hit europe. Cars en trucks get struck by the icey snow. the subaru helps a idiot truckdriver who can’t get over the traintracks. Greetzz from the netherlands.

  27. Jamo says:

Strongmen pull semis with their teeth, why wouldn’t a 227 hp car be capable of it?

    • UmmHello? says:

Umm, the Subaru WRX STi has 300HP and 300 lb/ft of torque stock, not 227 which the regular WRX has. Dumb ass!

  28. DerekDutch says:

Sick…totally makes me consider a subaru as an option in the future.

  29. mr.dada says:

I think this is in The Netherlands ;) Any car, truck or wheeled vehicle can sit and spin on a piece of black ice like this truck encountered. Nice of the Subaru to help out. Pretty sure if this was staged, it wouldn’t have the guy at the end saying “the tires aren’t filled with snow yet, so braking will be possible.” He was answering the woman, who questioned how they would come to a stop…

  30. JonnyBGood says:

“A Subaru isn’t exactly the first car I would think of buying or driving when it came to racing”

maybe because you’re a tool, ignorant, or both.

  31. nunyo says:

I’ve pulled a mid 80’s model Chevy Silverado out of a ditch with my ‘96 Outback Sport in a downpour. The cars are certainly more capable than most would think. It is true that helping bigger vehicles is often just a matter of helping them get their own traction though.
