The Stat Line of the Night – 3/1/10 – Dirk Nowitzki
Even with the Dallas Mavericks recent acquisitions of Brendan Haywood and Caron Butler (both who make the Mavs significantly better in my opinion), the show still runs through the 12th-year man, Dirk Nowitzki. As if you didn’t already know that, though.
But for the sake of drilling into your head that Dirk is an NBA superstar, take a look at some of his stats on Dallas’ current eight game winning streak. After last night’s 27 points and 13 rebounds, Dirk is averaging over 29 points, 7.75 rebounds, and has missed just one free throw during the streak. What’s silly is those are near his season averages.
Now that the Mavs have received a little more rebounding help, Dirk’s numbers may drop in that category (though they haven’t slipped significantly since the beginning of the season), and in turn, his shooting will only go up because he’ll have more energy to expend on the other side of the floor.
It showed in the month of February when his shooting percentage went up two points and started March out with a 52.2% bang. The most remarkable stat of them all might be his free throw shooting, though. He’s always had a very high free throw percentage, but since the end of January, Dirk has missed just three freebies (94-97), good for 97%.
This Dallas team is only as scary as Dirk is and man, he is scary good. Dirk Nowitzki has the stat line of the night for 3/1/10.
