The Stat Line of the Night — 3/2/10 — Kevin Durant
The Oklahoma City Thunder have depended on Kevin Durant all season long. Although his ridiculous streak of 25+ point games had been snapped last week, he has continued to deliver for his team. At 36-23, the Thunder are having their best season since moving to Oklahoma City, and Durant is getting some help from his friends.
Not only did KD light up the Kings last night, but his running mate Russell Westbrook looked stellar as well, dropping 30 points and adding 13 assists. Durantula had a monstrous game himself, scoring 39 points on 13-26 shooting. He also nailed 12-12 free throws and led all players in the game with 10 rebounds. He is nearly unstoppable on the offensive end and when he is getting help like that from his teammates, the Thunder look like a team that might have some legs come playoff time.
The Thunder have actually been decent defensively all season long, but last night they looked like swiss cheese on that end of the court. Fortunately for them they were adequately equipped to have a shootout with the lowly Kings. Kevin Durant is the league’s second leading scorer by just .1 points behind LeBron James. While he is currently a fringe MVP candidate, games like these should earn him significantly more consideration. That being said, he can at least go home with “The Stat Line of the Night”.
