Picture Of The Day: Who Knew Golfing Could Be So Painful?

5

golf ouch

Unless you happen to be partnered up with an angry Tiger Woods, or fooling around with these guys, golfing doesn't appear to pose much, if any, dangers to those playing this leisurely game.  However, I guess that doesn't not apply to those who decide to shoot a round in the desert.

Word of advice: If you lose your ball in a bunch of cactus plants, don't bother going to look for it!

I'm still trying to figure out what is more amusing.  The number of times this poor sucker has been pricked, or the clueless looks on the faces of the medical team.

I feel bad for the dude. I’ve had one of those in my forearm before. Unless they have some pliers, they are going to have a hard time removing them. You can’t do it with your fingers, and moving them with anything else just causes more of the spines to stick into the skin. Attempting flick them off just causes them to roll on your skin. They also leave itchy red marks afterwards.

Ah! This cactus is called, “jumping cholla”, and this is more or less the reason why. Those spines stick in much better than most cactus spines and it’s got weak joints between the nodes so if you brush up against one of those suckers you’re gonna be taking some friends with you. Beautiful cactus in the wild, though.
