The Stat Line of the Night – 3/18/10 – Jimmer Fredette
With a name like Jimmer Fredette, you might expect this story to be about the host of a Sunday morning TV fishing show. But it’s not. Jimmer Fredette’s name is being mentioned by basketball fans far and wide today after his amazing performance in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Fredette and his 7th seed BYU team drew the 10th seed Florida Gators in opening round play. I think Fredette wouldn’t have cared if it was Kobe and the Lakers. He took over the game and showed that he is a stone cold killer with ice water in his veins.
That may be one too many cliches for you, but it fits Fredette. He led his BYU team to a 99-92 double-overtime victory over the Gators in extraordinary fashion. He scored 37 points on 13-26 shooting. But most importantly he nailed two dagger threes in the second OT to finish the Gators.
Fredette surpassed the 30-point mark for the eighth time this year and his third straight game. But this one was the sweetest, as it’s on to round 2 for BYU. Jimmer Fredette has The Stat Line of the Night for 3/18/10.
