Many MMA fans were critical of this weekend’s main event at UFC 111, after welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre completely dominated challenger Dan Hardy by taking him to the ground at every opportunity, but never really inflicting any significant damage. Sure, it wasn’t the most entertaining fight, but at least it wasn’t as bad as the showing put forth by Kalib Starnes at UFC 83.
Fleeing from his opponent, Nate Quarry, the entire fight, Starnes’ constant retreating eventually led to the introduction of “the MMA Running-man.” Quarry used the comedic gesture to taunt Starnes as the crowd rained down boos. It was especially odd, considering the fact that Starnes is Canadian and the fight took place in front of an incredibly pro-Canadian crowd at the Bell Center in Montreal.
Canadian crowds can sure be harsh at times. Even to their own kind.
