It was a Cinderella season for the Phoenix Coyotes. Amidst all the talks of a team in despair over the off-season, the boys who call Glendale, Arizona home put together one of the most improbable NHL seasons, finishing with 107 points and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Unfortunately, that landed them an opening-round match-up with the defending Western Conference champion Detroit Red Wings. After six hard fought games, it came down to a decisive Game 7 at Jobing.com Arena, and with the support of the hometown crowd fully behind the Coyotes, they would become victims of a 6-1 beatdown at the hands of the Wings.
So does this mean that the team is back to their bankrupt ways? Below is not exactly a scene of what happened on the ice last night in Glendale, but it may as well have been.
And here is the post game reaction from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
