Blue Jays’ Ball Boy Disciplined by Ump, Officer and Mascot (Video)
Catch balls that are ruled foul and steer clear of those called in-play. Sounds simple, but life as a ball boy is not always as easy as it seems. One wrong move and you can have everyone against you, including umpires, police officers, and mascots. That was the case for one ball boy this weekend at the Rogers Center in Toronto.
With the Yankees in town to play the Blue Jays, the youngster along the third base line made a nice grab on a Robinson Cano grounder. Unfortunately the ball was ruled fair and Cano was rewarded with a double. As for the ball boy, he would have his glove confiscated by third base umpire Gary Darling and turned over to authorities.
Later in the game it was the Jays’ mascot, Ace, getting in on the act as he used caution tape to prohibit the ball boy from leaving his seat and interfering with any more balls.
