The Stat Line of the Night – 6/14/10 – John Buck
The Blue Jays have played very well through the first half of the season, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t immune to some odd situations. Last night was one of those. While John Buck brought his big bat and created some thunder from above, the Jays also felt something odd going on beneath their feet. Maybe they’ve never felt it in Toronto, but in San Diego where they were playing the Padres, earthquakes happen frequently. Last night was one of those times, as the earth shook beneath their feet in the 8th inning.
The earthquake did nothing to slow down John Buck. He got the party going early for the Blue Jays, teeing off on the Padres Jon Garland in the 2nd inning to help them jump out to an early 2-0 lead. Then, right before the earthquake struck, Buck went yard again in the top of the 8th to help his team to the 6-3 win. The catcher was 2-3 on the night with the 2 home runs, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs.
Although the Jays have had a decent first half overall, they had lost 6 of their last 7 going into last night. Buck’s bat and a little earthquake may have been all they needed to get a jump-start though. The AL East is extremely competitive featuring the Red Sox, Yankees, and Devil Rays and the Jays will need to continue to win games if they want any hope of making the playoffs. For now, John Buck gets the “Stat Line of the Night”.
