He fanned 14 batters in his major league debut. He has been setting records for the most strikeouts to begin a career with every passing game. But still, when we saw a Stephen Strasburg card being sold on Ebay for over $10,000, we described it as simply “inexplicable.”
So if that is “inexplicable”, then I can’t even begin to imagine how one would classify the sale of this 2010 Bowman Stephen Strasburg Red Autograph card, which is currently going for $113,500 USD on Ebay (12:20 pm ET). The card is said to be the only one of its kind with a red border, and is also signed by the phenom himself.
Such factors make the card a unique one, but is a thin piece of cardboard really ever worth over $114,000? What happens if Strasburg simply flames out, or suffers a devastating arm injury? Does this become the worst investment in the history of American sports memorabilia? At such a high price, I would argue that it already is!
