“Oh My God! Ichiro Touched Me!”
Ken Griffey Jr.’s Goodbye Baseball, Hello Cooperstown Commercial (Video)
Nike has always been super-creative when it comes to making commercials and building their brand. In this new add they bring the clever in saluting the man with one of baseball’s all-time sweetest swings: Ken Griffey Jr.
The cracks of the bat are accompanied by one of Seattle Mariners play by play announcer Rick Rizzs’ signature calls: “Goodbye, baseball!” The “Hello, Cooperstown.” is a fantastic way to end the salute. Griffey Jr. should certainly be a first ballot Hall of Famer when his 5 year waiting period is finished. Any baseball writer that does not vote for him on the first ballot should never be allowed to vote again. They should also be forced to be jousted with no protection. Also, it would be great if they had their eyes held open “A Clockwork Orange” style and were forced to watch this over and over and over.
Eh, who am I kidding? That last thing is heaven on earth. We’ll find some other punishment if Griffey doesn’t receive 100% of the votes on his first ballot.
