The Stat Line of the Night – 7/29/10 – R.A. Dickey
A long, long time ago, R.A. Dickey was one of the hottest pitching prospects in all of baseball. He was a 1st round pick of the Rangers in 1996. But like so many prospects that are hyped up, Dickey never lived up to his potential. Until now — almost 15 years later.
Dickey is now hurling for the New York Mets, his 4th team over the past 5 seasons. Last night the Mets were hosting the Cardinals at Citi Field and Dickey was on the hill. He did what he has been doing all year long — pitching great and keeping the Mets in contention in the NL East.
Dickey took a three-hit shutout heading into the ninth inning. He allowed a hit and then turned it over to K-Rod for the final two outs. K-Rod closed the door and the Mets won. Dickey ended up going 8.1, allowing just those 4 hits while baffling Cardinal hitters. His great performance gave the Mets their first series victory in more than a month. Dickey is now 7-4 and he lowered his ERA to 2.32. He has The Stat Line of the Night for 7/29/10.
