The Stat Line of the Night — 8/1/10 — Adam LaRoche
The Arizona Diamondbacks recently made some big moves as the trade deadline was nearing, but the general feeling is that they were sellers. At 23 games back in the division, there is not much hope for this season. That doesn’t mean a D-backs fan can’t dream, however. Yesterday was a perfect day for an Arizona dreamer. Arizona traded Edwin Jackson for a young pitcher named Daniel Hudson and boy did they get their money’s worth so far. Just to make sure he felt welcome, though, Adam LaRoche lent his bat to the effort to push them to a 14-1 victory over the Mets.
While Hudson threw an 8-inning 1-run gem, the real story was the offensive prowess of Adam LaRoche. LaRoche has had a rough year so far, but last night he belted two 3-run shots in a D-Backs offensive explosion to help give Hudson all the run support he needed to carry the team to victory. LaRoche was 3-6 with 6 RBIs. His other hit was a double.
The Diamondbacks appear to have a good young core. Although they traded away a possible future ace in Dan Haren, it looks like they still have the pieces to compete in a shaky NL West in the future. This year they are pretty much out of it, however, but Adam LaRoche can hang his hat on this win, and also take home “The Stat Line of the Night”.
