The Stat Line of the Night – 8/3/10 – Ricky Romero
Last night fans gathered at Yankee Stadium in anticipation of Alex Rodriguez hitting his long awaited 600th home run. As it turned out, they probably would have been happy with at least a hit. A-Rod struggled to do anything against Jays’ ace Ricky Romero and the same could be said for the rest of the Yankees’ line-up as well.
After struggling through the first inning, in which he gave up a walk to Derek Jeter and a two-run homer to Mark Teixeira, Romero settled down quite nicely, giving up only one hit throughout the next eight innings on route to a commanding 8-2 victory over the division rival Yanks. It was a performance worthy of “The Stat Line of the Night” for August 3, 2010.
It was Romero’s third complete game of the season, as he gave up only two earned runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out four. A vast improvement from his last outing in Yankee Stadium when the lefty surrendered eight earned runs through only 2 2/3 innings in an 11-3 loss.
