The Stat Line of the Night – 8/4/10 – Vicente Padilla
The San Diego Padres may be the best story in baseball this year. They have the National League’s best record at 62-40, after fielding trade offers for their best player in the offseason. But last night in Los Angeles, their playoff hopes hit another bump in the road in the form of a brilliant pitching effort from the Dodgers’ Vicente Padilla.
Sitting in fourth place in the crowded NL West, the Dodgers were able to close the gap between themselves and the first place Padres to seven games thanks to a complete-game two-hit shutout from Padilla in a 9-0 victory. The 32-year-old righty was dominant on the mound, striking out nine while issuing only two walks. He also went 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored and one RBI. It was a great all-around performance that was truly worthy of “The Stat Line of the Night” for August 4, 2010.
