Kung-Fu Kicks Becoming An Epidemic In Soccer (Video)

by: JamieD On  Monday, August 9, 2010

It all seemed to begin at the World Cup final in Johannesburg, when the Netherlands’ Nigel De Jong delivered a flying kung-fu kick to the chest of Spain’s Xabi Alonso.  Since then we have seen similar incidents in amateur soccer games, and now during an exhibition match between Real Madrid and the L.A. Galaxy.

Has the seemingly rare kung-fu kick in soccer suddenly turned into an epidemic?

The Galaxy’s Juninho was the player on the receiving end of this vicious cleat-first aerial attack from Real’s Royston Drenthe.  It should come as little surprise that Drenthe is also Dutch, and therefore likely learned some of his martial arts moves from fellow countryman De Jong.
