The Stat Line of the Night – 8/25/10 – Joey Votto
With the St. Louis Cardinals slumping as of late, the Cincinnati Reds were looking to take advantage and build upon their lead in the NL Central. After the Cards fell to the Pirates, the Reds had the opportunity to increase their division lead to 3.5 games, and that is exactly what they did, thanks to some help from the bat of Joey Votto.
Led by two Votto home runs, the Reds found themselves with a commanding 9-1 lead after four innings. However, that lead evaporated quickly after ten unanswered runs from the Giants, but that astounding comeback would not be enough as Votto was there once again to pick his team up with a single in the 12th inning, which brought in the go-ahead run. Cincy would hold on for the 12-11 victory, thanks in large part to Votto’s 4-for-7 day at the plate, which included two home runs and four RBIs. It was a performance that not only earned his team an important win, but also made Votto our “Stat Line of the Night” for Wednesday, August 15, 2010.
