The Stat Line of the Night – 8/26/10 – Edwin Jackson
Edwin Jackson blew away the Orioles last night. It wasn’t a no-hitter like he threw on June 25th as a member of the Diamondbacks, but it was close and in some ways more dominant.
Jackson pitched 8 shutout innings for the White Sox, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 10 and walking just 2. The Sox won 8-0, so manager Ozzie Guillen went to his bullpen in the ninth as Jackson was close to 110 pitches. He needed 149 pitches to complete his no-hitter because he walked 8 in that game and struck out just 6. One metric used to measure a pitcher’s single game performance is “game score”. In his no-hitter, Jackson’s game score was 85. Last night’s performance was an 84.
In his 4 starts for the White Sox since the trade, Jackson is 2-0 with an 0.96 ERA. He’s allowed only 3 earned runs in those starts while striking out 34 and walking just 7. I’d say someone is happy to be back in the American League. Edwin Jackson has The Stat Line of the Night for 8/26/10/.
