The Stat Line of the Night — 9/6/10 — Danny Espinosa
The Stat Line of the Night — 9/7/10 — Vernon Wells
Let’s just say its a bad idea to bet against Vernon Wells when he plays the Texas Rangers. As the Rangers have found out this year, when Wells and the Blue Jays come to town, it usually spells trouble for them. He was at it again last night, helping the Jays to an 8-5 victory over the Rangers. Wells numbers this season against he Rangers are staggering, hitting .448 with 8 home runs and 16 RBIs in just 8 games.
Wells was 3 for 3 on the night, with two home runs, two RBIs, 2 runs and a walk. It was the perfect night for Wells, whose home runs came at crucial points in the game. With the Jays down 2-1 in the 4th, he pounded a ball deep to left to tie up the score 2-2. Then in the 7th with the Jays holding a 2 run lead, he hit another shot to push the lead to 6-3, which was just enough insurance to get the win.
Wells and the Jays have had a very good season, but as usual they are stuck in the most difficult division in baseball, the AL East. Wells himself is having a phenomenal season, raising his home run total to 27 with the two shots last night. He also takes home the “Stat Line of the Night” as his home runs helped the Jays down the Rangers.
