The Stat Line of the Night – 9/16/10 – Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins came to Chicago to play a series with the White Sox with a 6-game lead in the AL Central. If the White Sox swept or won 2 of 3, their would still be a race going on in that division. Instead, the Twins came in and absolutely buried the White Sox and their postseason chances. Minnesota smoked the Sox in all three games and swept them, increasing their lead to an insurmountable 9 games with just 16 to play.
Last night the Twins jumped on the Sox early with 3 runs in the second inning. The Sox came back with 2 runs, but in the 5th the Twins added 3 more, 2 coming off the bat of Delmon Young, who jacked his 18th homer of the season.
The White Sox clawed back a bit to make it 6-5, but in the 9th inning the Twins shoveled the last bit dirt on the White Sox 2010 coffin by scoring two more times to make it 8-5. Matt Capps pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. The Twins are on their way to the postseason, and they have The Stat Line of the Night for 9/16/10.
