The Stat Line of the Night – 9/22/10 – Philadelphia Phillies
It would be appropriate for the Phillies’ players to answer every question from reporters and fans with, “How Ya Like Me Now?”. Many thought they didn’t have another division title in them this year, but the Phils have proven everyone wrong. And the Phillies didn’t merely turn up the heat in September — they blasted it.
Last night they gave the Braves another taste of what a potential playoff series between the two teams might be like. The Phillies beat them 1-0 on Wednesday for their 10th straight win and increased their NL East lead to 6 games. The Phils’ magic number for clinching their fourth straight division title is down to four. It was the Phillies’ first home sweep over the Braves in 9 years.
That was the Phillies 6th 1-0 win this season, which ties them with the Dodgers and Padres for the most in MLB. The pitching was dominant yet again. Roy Oswalt went 7 innings and allowed just one hit. Raul Ibanez’s RBI-double in the 8th was the only run the Phils needed.
The Philadelphia Phillies are the team no one wants to face in the playoffs. And now they have The Stat Line of the Night for 9/22/10.
