The Stat Line of the Night – 10/18/10 – Cliff Lee
The nickname “Mr. October” may currently belong to Reggie Jackson, however, should Cliff Lee continues his run of playoff dominance, that may have to change.
Rangers’ manager Ron Washington ordered his starting rotation so that Lee would pitch Game 3 and give his team the opportunity to steal a game in New York, and that is exactly what he did, throwing 8 innings of shutout ball on route to an 8-0 victory. Lee frustrated Yankees batters all game, allowing only two hits and one walk, and striking out 13. It was perhaps his most dominant performance in a playoffs that has already seen him deliver two gems in the Rangers’ previous series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Lee is now 7-0 in eight career playoff games with a remarkable 1.26 ERA. It may not be long before we begin to label him as “the Mr. October of the 21st Century,” but for now he will have to settle with “The Stat Line of the Night” for Monday, October 18, 2010.
